FleetLink Upgrade.
modernising our analogue radio network.
For over two decades, hundreds of organisations throughout NZ have used the FleetLink analogue radio network to keep frontline workers connected and support day-to-day business operations.
Like any technology that’s been around a while, the FleetLink network was getting a bit long in the tooth. Talking to our current FleetLink customers told us that, even though digital radio comes with bells, whistles, and extra features, many on the FleetLink network only want to use their radios for voice communication. They didn’t want to buy new equipment or take their fleets off the road to upgrade their radios – just to continue communicating via voice radio calls.
With customers telling us they’re keen to keep using FleetLink, we decided to invest in improvements to the network. Teams throughout Vital joined forces to futureproof the FleetLink network, ensuring our customers can continue to use their analogue radio equipment for many years to come.
the upgrade begins.
In mid-2022 our teams set out to upgrade core sites in our FleetLink Network to a digital technology called MPT-IP. Between May and September 2022 our in-house Field Engineers and delivery partners travelled up mountains to radio high-sites throughout NZ – starting with our Southland sites to avoid the winter snow.
Minimizing the disruption to customers using FleetLink was a key part of the project. Each site was upgraded separately and customers were contacted ahead of time, to ensure they knew when sites in their area were being upgraded and what to expect once the upgrade was complete.
Mission Complete.
Five months and 76 sites later, the project was complete – right on schedule and without any major disruptions.
Thanks to the upgrade, our FleetLink network is more reliable, easier to monitor for faults, and will continue connecting frontline teams, vehicles, and worksites, well into the future.
